Lan Chi, childhood photographer in Nancy, holding a baby

Xin chào.

I'm Lan Chi.

I photograph children.

Based in Nancy

The beginning.

I've been photographing since my teens. In Vietnam, where I worked in events, I took photos whenever the chance came up — sometimes for work, often just for myself. Travels, people, a mood, sometimes simply something that caught my eye.

When I arrived in France, photographs took on a slightly different role. With part of my family still in Vietnam, they became a very simple way to share with them what they couldn't see: a place, a day, a little of our everyday life.

Then came Lena.

As my daughter's own photographer from the day she was born, I learned to photograph every stage, every change, every small moment of her childhood. And, without quite realising it, that also changed the way I look at photographs.

Over time, I realised that the ones that moved me most weren't always the most perfect, the most prepared, or the most posed. They were the ones that took me straight back to a precise moment of her childhood — an expression, a gesture, a little habit, that detail that made me smile and think: yes, that was really her.

And so Naoi was born. Quite simply, the wish to create that kind of photograph — for your child, for you, for your family.

Na ơi,
mẹ thương con.

Na·oi.
Na the second syllable of Lena.
ơi the breath you place after the name of a child you love.

Naoi is what I call my daughter. A little wink — and a way of saying that I love her, and that it's through her that everything began.
